Moscow concert hall attack: Death toll rises to 133

An incident of firing took place on Friday night in a concert hall on the outskirts of Moscow, the capital of Russia.

According to official figures, the death toll in the attack has increased to 133, while a large number of people have been injured. Children are also included among those who died.

The Russian Foreign Minister has called it a terrorist attack. Ukraine has denied any involvement in the attack.

BBC Russian Service editor Steve Rosenberg has said that this is the biggest attack on Russia in the last two decades.

Russian officials said that they did not have much information about who the attackers were and where they came from. There are also indications that the attackers have escaped and the police is busy searching for them.

At midnight, the Russian Presidential Office issued a statement on its official Telegram channel saying that President Vladimir Putin is being constantly informed about the attack and the steps taken by security agencies.

Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that Putin has given orders to all departments related to the matter.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the people killed in the attack in Moscow.

He tweeted, “We strongly condemn the heinous extremist attack in Moscow. Our prayers are with the families of the victims. “India stands with the Russian government and its people in this hour of grief.”

Who is responsible for the attack?

A faction of the extremist organization Islamic State (IS) has taken responsibility for the attack.

IS says that the gunmen who attacked have fled from here.

America has said that there is no reason not to believe this claim of Islamic State.

The White House has confirmed that it had informed Russian authorities in early March that there could be an attack on a ‘large crowd’ in Moscow.
